Doing it with more than just gasoline, Kurt joined the team from West Coast Choppers during their succesful attempt at setting the land speed record using Hydrogen as fuel, as Autoweek was their to capture the event. Kurt first got involved with the project while he was with W2W, so the team called him out to support the run.

I have built small-blocks of larger cubic inches, but to go much bigger than 400 ci requires expensive custom parts and modifications to the block and other components, all of which I’m steering clear. Budget 10-Bolt Upgrade - Chevy High covers Kurt rear end set-up

Although the car is long gone, once upon a time Kurt and partner in crime Dave Henniger, were notorious for just what they were capable of doing with a 10-bolt rear end.

How strong is the 8.5-inch 10-bolt? Well, let’s put it this way: Both Dave Henninger and Kurt Urban run these 10-bolts (with spools) in their respective Camaros. Henninger has run as quick as 8.68/151 mph, while Urban’s Camaro runs 9.20s/145. Henninger has never broken a gear and has logged hundreds of runs. That should settle the question of durability.

Ethanol Alternative Fuel - Kurt helps Hot Rod test E85

Check out this article Kurt did with Hot Rod testing E85 on a stroked LS2, while he was with Wheel to Wheel.

Recently we looked in on a dyno shootout Urban conducted featuring gasoline versus E85. The test mule was W2W’s standard LS2 crate engine, 402 ci with electronic fuel injection, Mahle 10.2:1 pistons, and ported cathedral heads.

Training Wheels - Dave Underwoods Camaro in GM HighTech

GM High Tech Magazine wrote this article about Daves Camaro, built by Wheel to Wheel with Kurt providing the design direction. The car has been upgraded since this article, but it is still pretty cool to see where it started.

Kurt Urban of W2W did the honors on the Camaro’s maiden voyage as the crew got everything all dialed in before Dave takes the wheel. Having already driven the first Gen III-powered vehicle into the 6s last year, Kurt was well qualified. A two-step rev limiter kept launch rpm at about 5,000-5,500, which generates only 5 to 7 psi but still a pants load of power with the solid roller 404-cube mill.
