Training Wheels - Dave Underwoods Camaro in GM HighTech

GM High Tech Magazine wrote this article about Daves Camaro, built by Wheel to Wheel with Kurt providing the design direction. The car has been upgraded since this article, but it is still pretty cool to see where it started.

Kurt Urban of W2W did the honors on the Camaro’s maiden voyage as the crew got everything all dialed in before Dave takes the wheel. Having already driven the first Gen III-powered vehicle into the 6s last year, Kurt was well qualified. A two-step rev limiter kept launch rpm at about 5,000-5,500, which generates only 5 to 7 psi but still a pants load of power with the solid roller 404-cube mill.

Spare Parts - PHR’s Engine Masters covers Casper

Popular Hot Rodding’s special publication Engine Masters goes through exactly how Casper came to be the 1st 6 second LS.

As if just building a 1,700hp LS1 wasn’t enough. If you can believe it, this engine was built from spare parts in a bunch of guys’ spare time as a dare to be the first to run 6 seconds in the quarter-mile with an LS1 V-8, which they achieved in a borrowed race car. As unbelievable as it sounds, it’s true, and you’re going to find out how this wild LS1 went together and what it means to the future of making power with the LS family.

Six Second Turbo LS1 Camaro Screamer - Hot Rod covers Casper

Casper was an after hours project at Wheel to Wheel, a personal mission of Kurt and the Wheel to Wheel crew to be the first LS in the sixes!

So it was that Kurt Urban and the crew at Michigan’s Wheel-to-Wheel Powertrain knew where to go to boast to the world of their efforts to post the fastest quarter-mile elapsed time with a Gen III-powered vehicle. That’s also how they knew that their 7.43-second pass last June was faster than the 7.47 at 184.46 mph previously set by CV Performance in Australia but slower than the 7.14 set by rivals Hardcore Motorsports a few weeks later…..

Duke Out in Detroit - Kurt drives GM’s ZL-1 Camaro for C&D

Everybody loves a friendly Chevy, Ford rivalry. That is exactly what Car and Driver Magazine put together pitting GM’s ZL-1 Camaro against Ford’s Boss Mustang

Photo by Car & Driver Magazine

The Ford camp expected more, a lot more, and they go into a huddle as Chevy pilot Kurt Urban works with the five-speed Camaro. His first pass is an 11.05 at 131.45 mph. But the engine misfires on the next run, and drops 6 mph

Top 10 Hot Rod’s of 2006 - W2W Nova makes the list

Making in to Hot Rod Magazine with the Nova was a huge accomplishment for Kurt and the W2W team, but making the top 10 list with the car was unbelievable.

It’s no secret I’m bent on beaters. The single fact that people willscream, “How does that junk make it in the Top 10?!” makes me want toput it there. And even though crusty street racers are nothing new, thiscompetitor in HOT ROD’s Pump Gas Drags(TM) and upcoming Drag Week(TM)events has plenty new: like a 402ci Gen III small-block stuffed with twonew Rotrex superchargers for 1,160 hp that’s all tucked under the hood. It’s tucked everywhere else, too, with ingenious packaging of theintercoolers and dual fuel systems for total driveability and anytimepower. It’s just cool. The bosses at Wheel To Wheel want to paint it. Wesay no. -David Freiburger
